Arun Chaudhary, the first official White House videographer, visited the Valenti School of Communication on Wednesday, January 31.

Students in Professor Levin’s Documentary Filmmaking class were privy to Mr. Chaudhary’s tales of filmmaking and sage career advice. For example, he suggested that they not call themselves documentary filmmakers.

“You are all multimedia artists. That is what people are interested in hiring,” said Mr. Chaudhary.

Most recently, Mr. Chaudhary served as Bernie Sanders' digital creative director in the 2016 presidential campaign. Previously, he traveled extensively with President Obama, capturing public events and behind-the-scenes moments and producing and packaging presidential tapings for the both online and broadcast television.

While serving under the Obama administration, he also created “West Wing Week,” the first-ever online video diary of the White House. Mr. Chaudhary wrote, produced, shot and edited over 63 episodes of West Wing Week, documenting the president through his rigorous weekly agenda.

Chaudhary was also a key member of Barack Obama’s New Media team during the 2008 campaign. As the New Media Road Director, Chaudhary oversaw the team responsible for capturing the day-to-day life of the future president in video and stills. He and his team set a new standard in documenting history, delivering crucial images to the public from the road in real time.
